Hi, I'm Claire

Hi, I'm Claire

I became a therapist because of my own start to motherhood. I spent the first 18 months with my child desperately trying to contain rage. I felt it viscerally, like an energy that would shoot down my arms that wanted me to throw my baby off me. It consumed me. I thought I just wasn't the 'maternal type', that some women were just built for this and I wasn't one of them. I put off getting support because I was so full of shame for the thoughts and feelings I was experiencing.

I tried NHS support including medication, tried a couple of therapists. But it wasn't until the third therapist, someone who didn't judge me or minimise what motherhood had done to me, that things started to shift.

All of this shaped how I work. It's not just listening to you, it's about exploring all of the factors that influence how you're feeling now so that we can really make a lasting change in how you treat yourself and therefore how you interact with your children.

A huge part of this includes listening to your body. That tightening in your chest, the shallow breath, the clench in your jaw...they're the things to get curious about. You start to notice the reactions that aren't really about your child at all, and you can pause instead of spiral. And you start to understand yourself in a way nobody ever taught you to.

This therapy isn't about managing yourself better or working out how to cope with situations that should never have been yours to manage alone. It's about finally understanding why you react the way you do, and giving yourself something more useful than willpower.

I work with the mums who know something needs to change and want to do that for themselves and their children. The mums who might have tried different parenting strategies or have had therapy in the past, but know they need something different.

I spent a long time thinking I was the problem and I'd love to help you find out what's actually going on a lot sooner than that.

If this calls to a part of you, I'd love to support you. An initial 15 minute enquiry call is free, or you can book your first session, all without pressure.

My 'Dear Rage' newsletter contains musings from therapy and my own mothering journey to help you view yourself & your anger differently.
